Depression Therapy in Tampa

Depression does not always announce itself as sadness. For a lot of people it arrives as flatness — things that used to matter stop landing, and you find yourself going through the motions of a life you recognize but cannot quite feel.

I work with adults who are functioning on the outside and running on empty underneath.

The signs that get missed

  • Irritability and a short fuse, rather than tearfulness
  • Exhaustion that sleep does not fix
  • Losing interest in things you used to look forward to
  • Difficulty making even small decisions
  • Withdrawing from people, then feeling lonely, then withdrawing further
  • Harsh self-criticism that feels like simple honesty
  • Physical symptoms — appetite changes, aches, slowed movement

High-functioning depression is real and commonly overlooked. If you are still meeting your obligations, it is easy for everyone including you to conclude that nothing is wrong.

How I work with depression

Depression is self-reinforcing. Low energy leads to doing less, doing less leads to fewer good moments, and fewer good moments confirm the story that nothing helps. Effective treatment interrupts that cycle from more than one direction at once.

  • Behavioral activation — rebuilding momentum through small, specific action, before motivation returns rather than after
  • Cognitive work — examining the conclusions depression draws and testing whether they hold up
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) — useful when depression is anchored to loss, grief, or a particular event
  • Solution-focused work — finding the exceptions, the days that went better, and what was different about them

Grief and loss

Grief is not depression, though the two can overlap and one can turn into the other. Grief after a death, a divorce, a diagnosis, or the end of a chapter you did not choose deserves its own room. You do not need to be in crisis to bring it to therapy.

If you are in crisis

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, please call or text 988 — the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — or go to your nearest emergency room. Therapy is a good next step, but it is not an emergency service.

Licensed in four states

I see clients in person in Tampa and online throughout Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Washington, over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

Getting started

Reaching out is often the hardest part, and depression makes it harder. A free 15-minute consultation is a low-stakes way to start.
